Cleansing is the process of removing harmful toxins from the body while restoring and healing it on a cellular level.
Healing cannot fully occur in a body with a lot of toxins or in a mind overwhelmed by clutter. By reducing the toxic load, your body and mind will be far more receptive to nourishment and change.
In this post, I will explain why cleansing is so important and the ways that you can cleanse.

Why Cleansing Matters
Imagine living in a house where the garbage was never taken out. Every room in the house was filled with trash, the food was moldy, and the floor was dirty.
How would you feel being in that house, even for just five minutes?
Would it probably smell awful, right? I don’t know about you, but leaving that house immediately would be a must for me.
It is only when someone begins cleansing and making it germ-free that the house becomes livable and healthy for the individuals living there.
Continuously holding on to toxins opens the body up for many negative effects, such as reducing the body’s ability to release fat, increased risk of developing diseases, creating a breeding ground for parasites, and so much more. Toxins like heavy metals and chemicals can contribute to nutritional deficiencies, leading to your body not working the way it should.
Cleansing isn’t just limited to the body but also your mind and your environment.
Let me explain. If you are living with a lot of stress and anxiety, for example, that means your mind is cluttered and occupied with thoughts that may not serve you.
Have you ever heard of the saying, “Clutter steals your energy and clarity?”
When it comes to your environment, having a messy house and having things be disorderly is a reflection of what’s going on in the mind. Sweeping out those thoughts and emotions can help improve your mental well-being.
The mind, body, and environment are all interconnected. What affects one can affect the other.

What are some ways to cleanse the Mind?
Cut off the things that may contribute to mental clutter. Before you can cleanse, we need to eliminate things that contribute to the mental clutter. Maybe it’s daily habits that are draining your energy, and you don’t realize it.
Or maybe it’s listening to negative music. You know what I mean. The music that talks about violence or the disrespect of women, for example. Your diet isn’t just what you put into your body its also what you feed your mind. The same thing goes for the movies and TV shows you watch. You will be surprised by how much of an impact television has on people. Identify the negative things and people that may contribute to this and consider reducing them.
Meditation and Mindfulness- meditation is an exercise for the mind. It has so many benefits for the mind and regulates emotions. There was a study that was conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. During the study, participants meditated for several weeks at a time. At the end of the study, they concluded that there was an increase in gray matter in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. This means that they were able to regulate their emotions better, and they had better impulse control.
I personally meditate, and I can speak on the wonderful benefits of meditation. It allows you to get rid of negative thoughts or emotions that you no longer want, which helps get rid of any mental baggage that you are carrying.
Anyone can meditate. You can start with simple breathing exercises for just 5-10 minutes a day.
Journaling is another powerful tool. It makes you spend time with yourself and be honest with yourself. It makes you identify patterns that have been keeping you in the same cycles and helps you to address and break those cycles.
Digital Detox: Stepping away from social media for at least 30 days can do wonders for people. Especially depending on the type of content you consume daily. Social media can cause people to compare themselves to influencers or just regular people. It may cause you to feel like you are behind in life. Stepping away from that can allow you to focus on yourself.
Positive Affirmations replace negative self-talk. Positive daily affirmations are another way to remove mental clutter. You replace the mental clutter with supportive thoughts.
Cleansing the Body
Drinking clean water. We all know that drinking water is good for you. It not only keeps us hydrated, but it also flushes out toxins from the body.
Eating whole foods like vegetables and fruits is packed with vitamins and minerals. Many of these vitamins and minerals support the body’s detoxification process. For example, dark leafy vegetables are high in chlorophyll (the pigment that makes the vegetable green), which is great for the liver and blood. Avoiding processed foods is essential when cleansing the body.
Processed foods have no to little nutritional value, and many are high in salt.
Movement and exercise: Having some type of movement in your day is a great way to eliminate toxins. It helps stimulate our lymphatic systems and helps us to sweat. Sweat contains toxins like heavy metals.
I found that doing a form of movement that you enjoy may help you to stay consistent. For me, I love going for long walks out in nature and doing Tae Bo at home for free!
Getting quality sleep is important for recovery. Sleep is where our body heals and rejuvenates.
Last but not least: reduce or eliminate harmful substances like alcohol, caffeine, and sugar in moderation. In my opinion, these harmful substances are normalized but can be super-harmful. Alcohol, for example cause havoc on the liver; one of the organs that eliminates and processes toxins. Alcohol is a whole other topic that I’m not going to get into right now, but there’s no benefit in drinking alcohol.
Cleansing Your Environment
Decluttering your space. This can look like clearing our closets, organizing our pantry, and donating items (this is something I need to get better at). It can feel so good to clear our space. I know for me, I can function lol when my spaces are clear of clutter.
Going outside to get some fresh air and to enjoy the sunlight. Being out in nature and in the sun is great for absorbing Vitamin D. I love to take a walk out in nature and just be present with not only nature but myself.
Let go of negative energy. This includes cutting off toxic people. Or setting healthy boundaries with them if you feel like they have to be in your life. Negative energy could be bringing home drama from work, gossiping, or it can look like holding a grudge.
Understand what makes you feel anxious or stressed and release these from your life.
Smudging or Aromatherapy. Now, this one is optional, and I understand not everyone is spiritual, but if you are, this one is for you. Consider saging your house to release any negative energy specially when people leave your house. You can also you palo santo to cleanse negative energy as well. Another thing you could do is diffuse essential oils. Two of my favorites are frankincense and lavender oil.
Listen to healing frequencies. I love listening to healing frequencies. They are sounds (a form of meditative music) set at certain frequencies to heal the body and mind. Studies have shown that individuals who listen to the healing frequency tuned at 432 hz have a greater reduction in heart rate and lowered self-reported anxiety. Here is one of my favorite healing frequencies that I listen to almost every night.
Journal Prompts to Support You
If you know me, I love journal prompts! They make you dig in your head, and they make you face what’s holding you back.
Here are some journal prompts to support you on your cleanse:
- What thoughts do I want to release today?
- Which habits no longer serve my body?
- What areas of my environment feel cluttered or heavy?
- How can I create more peace and clarity in my life?
Final Thoughts
Cleansing the mind, body, and environment isn’t something that will come overnight. Add daily habits into your life slowly, and eventually, doing them will be a no-brainer. The most important thing is sticking to it.
You deserve to have clarity in your life and to feel good.
Which part of your life needs the most care right now? Is it your body, mind, or environment? What will you work on to make it better?
